It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's A Phonebooth!

If Superman ever goes to Lincoln, Nebraska at least he'll have a place to change clothes.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this phonebooth in front of a post office I was photographing.  I haven't seen an honest to God function phonebooth in close to twenty years.

A Little Nebraska Flora

There hasn't been much time to post but here are a couple of picture of flowers from the last few days.  The first three were all growing wild at the former Nebraska State Fairgrounds.  The last picture is from the Lincoln Foundation Gardens which is an oasis of tranquility in downtown Lincoln.

Hot Days In Lincoln, Nebraska

I'm in Lincoln Nebraska for the National Roller Figure Skating Championship and so far have managed to find a little time to explore and photograph some stuff.  I've got another ten days and hope to make the best of it.  Nick's first skater competed last night and we're off to his next performance in a few minutes.  With a good performance today he can win a medal.  Here's hoping he does what we know he's capable of doing.  Most of the pictures I've taken so far are for Places To Go, Buildings To See but I do have a few I'll be able to post here if I survive this ridiculous heat wave.  On the upside, there's no humidity like Florida so it actually feels a little better.

Adventures In The Florida Wilds - Street Audubon Center

Located at 115 Lameraux Road in Winter Haven, the Center offers a nature center and trails, one of which runs along the shore of Lake Ned.  We mainly followed one single trail but there were offshoot trails that we passed by as it was very muddy this day.  There's a box on a tree near the parking area that is supposed to hold trail maps but it was empty on the day of our visit so we were flying blind.  I didn't see any animals on this trek but Nick almost stepped on a snake at one point and he saw a bunny hop off into the forest.

One of many low hanging areas where we had close encounters with arachnids.

At the entrance from Lameraux road is this carved eagle welcome sign that has rotted slightly.

A slime covered pond.  Who knows what creatures lurk beneath the surface!

A mossy section of trail that was a welcome relief from the mud.

Look out for spiders!

Jaywalking Birds

These daring birds decided to cross the busy intersection of US17/92 at Poinciana Saturday morning.  They got to the center of the road and decided traffic was against them and turned around.

I'm Surrounded By Wild Creatures

Again I have to wonder how I never noticed all of the birds and animals around me since these days I can't seem to escape them at all.

Art Of A Child

Here are a couple of drawings that my nephew Nicholas drew for my partner Nick and I while he was visiting last week.

This one was for Nick and features his favorite animal, an aligator.  The person is supposed to be Nick but I think he looks like a leprechan.

For me he drew what I think he said was an eel.  I have no particular affinity for eels but that's what i got.

A Little Flora

There are all manner of plants here, many of which I do not know the name.  We start out with some succulents, random flowers, ferns on a palm, roses, a hibiscus, and a croton among other things.
